Introduction
HTN-LCD(High-TemperatureNematic-Liquid-CrystalDisplay)isatypeofLCDthatprovidesgoodviewinganglesandlowpowerconsumption.Despiteitsadvantages,however,HTN-LCDhasseveraldrawbacks,includingpoorcontrastandlimiteddrivingcapability.Inthispaper,wewilldiscussthecontrastoptimizationanddrivingcapabilityanalysisofHTN-LCD.
HTN-LCDContrastOptimization
ThecontrastinHTN-LCDcanbeimprovedbyseveralmethods.OnemethodistoadjustthevoltagelevelsoftheLCD'selectrodes.Thevoltageleveldeterminesthealignmentoftheliquidcrystalmolecules,which,inturn,affectsthecontrastofthedisplay.AnoptimalvoltagerangehasbeenfoundforHTN-LCDthatprovidesahighcontrastratio.
Anothermethodtoimprovecontrastistouseabacklightthatprovidessufficientillumination.Abrightbacklightincreasesthelightintensityand,thus,improvesthecontrastofthedisplay.However,itisessentialtomaintainagoodbalancebetweenbrightnessandthepowerconsumptionofthebacklight.
AthirdmethodtoimprovethecontrastofHTN-LCDistoadjustthebirefringenceoftheliquidcrystalmolecules.BirefringencedeterminesthewaveretardationoflightpassingthroughtheLCD,which,inturn,affectsthecontrastofthedisplay.Byadjustingthebirefringenceoftheliquidcrystalmolecules,thecontrastratiocanbeimproved.

ThedrivingcapabilityofanLCDpanelreferstoitsabilitytodisplayimagescorrectlyatdifferentframeratesandresolutions.HTN-LCDtypicallyhaslimiteddrivingcapabilityduetoitsslowresponsetime,whichcanresultinghostingorblurringoffast-movingimages.However,researchershavedevelopedseveralmethodstoimprovethedrivingcapabilityofHTN-LCD.
