Title:AnOntology-BasedRBACPolicyandIntegrationApproach
Abstract:
Role-BasedAccessControl(RBAC)isawidelyusedaccesscontrolpolicymechanisminmoderninformationsystems.However,inlargeandcomplexsystems,RBACpoliciescanbecomedifficulttomanageandmaintainduetotheexplosionofroles,permissions,andresources.Toaddressthisissue,weproposeanOntology-BasedRBACPolicyandIntegrationApproach.TheproposedapproachutilizesontologiestorepresenttheRBACpoliciesandintegratethemwithothersystemcomponents.Thispaperpresentstheontology-basedRBACpolicymodel,ontologymanagementprocess,andintegrationapproach.Theproposedapproachisappliedtoareal-worldhealthcareinformationsystem,andtheresultsdemonstrateitseffectivenessinmanagingandorganizingRBACpolicies.
Introduction:
Withtheincreasingcomplexityandscaleofinformationsystems,accesscontrolhasbecomeavitalrequirementforensuringthesecurityandprivacyofsensitivedataandresources.Role-BasedAccessControl(RBAC)isawidelyusedaccesscontrolmechanism,whichassignspermissionsandaccessrightstodifferentuserroles.RBACpoliciescanbechallengingtomanageandmaintaininlargeandcomplexsystems,asthenumberofroles,permissions,andresourcescanbecometooextensivetobehandledmanually.Therefore,thereisaneedforanefficientandeffectiveapproachformanagingRBACpoliciesincomplexsystems.Inthispaper,weproposeanOntology-BasedRBACPolicyandIntegrationApproachthatleveragesontologiestorepresentRBACpoliciesandenabletheirintegrationwithothersystemcomponents.
Background:
RBACisacommonlyusedaccesscontrolmodelthatgrantspermissionstodifferentuserrolesidentifiedinthesystem.ThetraditionalRBACmodelincludesthreecomponents:users,roles,andpermissions.Userrolesarecreatedbasedonthespecificresponsibilitiesandtasksofauserinthesystem,anddifferentpermissionsareassociatedwitheachrole.ThetraditionalRBACmodelhasevolvedtoincludemorecomplexrelationshipsbetweenrolesandpermissions,suchashierarchicalrolesorroledependencies.However,theRBACpolicymodelcanbecomeconvolutedandhardtomanageinlargesystemswithmanyrolesandperm
