Introduction
ProgrammableLogicDevices(PLDs)aredigitalintegratedcircuitsthatcontainalargenumberofdigitallogicgatesandcanbeprogrammedtoperformspecificlogicfunctions.TheuseofPLDsindigitalsystemsdesignhasbecomeincreasinglypopularduetotheirflexibilityandreconfigurability.ThedesignofaPLDcanbeacomplexprocessthatinvolvesmultiplestepssuchashardwaredescription,synthesis,simulation,andverification.ThispaperaimstodiscussthedesignandsimulationofPLDsbasedonAdvancePLDDesign.
AdvancePLDDesign
AdvancePLDDesignisadesignmethodologyusedfordesigningcomplexPLDarchitectures.Itinvolvestheuseofhigh-levelhardwaredescriptionlanguages(HDLs)suchasVHDLorVerilog,andsophisticatedsynthesisandsimulationtoolstogenerateoptimizedandefficientdesigns.ThemainstepsinvolvedinAdvancePLDDesigninclude:
1.DesignEntry:ThisinvolvesthecreationofahardwaredescriptionusinganHDL.TheHDLprovidesahigh-leveldescriptionofthedesign,whichcanbesimulatedandsynthesizedtogeneratetherequiredhardware.
2.Synthesis:SynthesisistheprocessoftransformingtheHDL-baseddesignintoanetlist,whichisalistofprimitivelogicgatesandtheirinterconnections.SynthesiscanbeperformedusingcommercialtoolssuchasXilinxISEorAlteraQuartus.
3.PlaceandRoute:ThisstepinvolvesmappingthenetlisttothetargetPLDdevice,wherethephysicallocationandconnectionoftheindividuallogicgatesaredetermined.Thefinalnetlististhengenerated,whichspecifiesthelocationofthelogicblocks,interconnects,andinput/outputpins.
4.Simulation:SimulationistheprocessofverifyingthefunctionalityofthePLDdesign.Itinvolvesthecreationoftestbenches,whicharesetsofinput/outputstimulithatareappliedtothedesign.Theoutputresponsesarethencomparedagainstexpectedresultstoensurethatthedesignfunctionsasexpected.
