Abstract:
ThegenusUlva,commonlyknownassealettuce,belongstothegreenalgaedivisionChlorophyta.Itisawidelydistributedandecologicallyimportantmarinemacroalga.ThisstudyaimstoinvestigatethemorphologicalcharacteristicsandtaxonomicclassificationoftheUlvaspeciesfoundinBeijing.Throughacomprehensiveexaminationofmorphology,reproductivestructures,andmolecularanalysis,thisresearchprovidesadetailedaccountofthevariousUlvaspeciesinBeijing,highlightingtheirecologicalsignificanceandcontributingtotheknowledgeofmacroalgaldiversityintheregion.
Introduction:
Thestudyofmarinemacroalgaehasgainedsignificantattentionduetotheirecologicalimportance,medicinalvalue,andpotentialapplicationsinbiofuelproductionandwastewatertreatment.ThegenusUlvarepresentsasignificantgroupofgreenmacroalgaethatcontributestotheprimaryproductivityofmarineecosystems.UnderstandingthemorphologicalandtaxonomiccharacteristicsofUlvaspeciesinBeijingiscrucialforecosystemconservationandsustainablemanagementofcoastalresources.
MaterialsandMethods:
FieldsurveyswereconductedinvariouscoastalareasofBeijingtocollectUlvaspecimens.Morphologicalobservationsweremadeusinglightmicroscopy,focusingonthallusstructure,cellarrangement,andreproductivestructures.Additionally,molecularanalysiswasperformedtodeterminethegeneticdiversityandrelationshipsamongthecollectedUlvaspecies.DNAbarcodingusingtherbcLgenewasemployedtoconfirmspeciesidentification.
ResultsandDiscussion:
Basedonmorphologicalobservations,threemainspeciesofUlvawereidentifiedinBeijing:Ulvalinza,Ulvaprolifera,andUlvacompressa.Ulvalinzaischaracterizedbyitsribbon-likethalluswithasmoothsurfaceandwavyedges.Ulvaproliferaexhibitsatubularstructureandproliferatesthroughvegetativereproduction.Ulvacompressaischaracterizedbyitsflat,broadthalluswithacorrugatedsurface.ThesemorphologicalcharacteristicsalignwithpreviousstudiesonUlvaspeciesinotherregions.
