Introduction
ADC(Analog-to-DigitalConverter)isafundamentalcomponentindigitalelectronicsystems,responsibleforconvertinganalogsignalsintodigitalformsthatcanbeprocessedbyadigitalcircuit.SAR(SuccessiveApproximationRegister)ADCsarewidelyusedinvariouselectronicsystemsbecauseoftheirhighresolution,lowpower,andfastconversionspeedfeatures.TheconversionprocessofSARADCsincludessampling,quantization,andcoding.Amongallthecomponents,CapacitorSwitchingCircuitshowssignificantimpactsontheperformanceofSARADCs,whichdirectlyaffectstheresolution,powerconsumption,andlayoutsize.Therefore,thispaperdiscussesandexploresthehighefficientCap-switchingconversionschemeforSARADCstoaddressthechallengesinpowerconsumption,performance,andimplementation.
CapacitorSwitchesinSARADC
InmostSARADCs,theCapacitorArrayistypicallycomposedofagroupofunitcapacitorsthathaveabinary-weightedcapacityratio.Eachunitcapacitorisconnectedtoanassociatedswitchingcapacitorswitch,whichcontrolswhetherthecapacitorisincludedintheconversionornot.TheCapacitanceswitchingcircuitofSARADCiscomplexandhasasignificantimpactontheperformanceofthedevice.Usually,theSwitchingCircuitcomprisestwoprimaryswitches,namelyMUX(Multiplexer)switchandCap-switch.TheMainfunctionoftheMUXswitchistoselecttheinputsignalforthenextcycleoftheconversionprocessand,theCap-switchisresponsibleforDischargingandChargingtheCapacitorarraybasedonthecodesequencegeneratedbytheADCcontroller.TheperformanceoftheCapswitchingcircuithasbeenwidelyresearchedforyears,butchallengesremaininoptimizingtheCap-switchingcircuitforLow-powerdevices.
ChallengesandRequirementsofCapacitorSwitchingCircuit
TheDesignoftheCap-switchingcircuitmustfulfillthefollowingrequirements:
1.FastSettlingTime:TheCapacitorSwitchingCircuitmusthaveafastsettlingtimetoensurethatthesignalcanbeaccuratelysampledinashortperiodandavoidanynoiseorjittercreepingintothesystem.Thisrequirementisparticularlysignificantinlow-latencyapplicationssuchashigh-speeddataacquisitionorprocessing.
