Abstract:
Withtherapiddevelopmentofwirelesscommunicationsystems,OrthogonalFrequencyDivisionMultiplexing(OFDM)hasgainedsignificantattentionduetoitsrobustnessagainstmultipathfadingchannels.However,accuratechannelestimationiscrucialfortheperformanceofOFDMsystems.Inthispaper,weinvestigateandcomparetheperformanceoftwocommonlyusedchannelestimationalgorithms,namelytheLeastSquares(LS)andMinimumMeanSquareError(MMSE)algorithms,inanOFDMsystem.SimulationresultsshowthattheMMSEalgorithmoutperformstheLSalgorithmintermsofchannelestimationaccuracyandBitErrorRate(BER).
1.Introduction
OFDMisamodulationschemewidelyusedinvariouswirelesscommunicationsystemsduetoitsabilitytocombatmultipathfadingchannels.EffectivechannelestimationisessentialforOFDMsystemstomitigatetheeffectsofchannelimpairments,suchasinter-symbolinterference(ISI),frequencyoffset,andphasenoise.TheLSandMMSEalgorithmsarecommonlyusedforchannelestimationinOFDMsystems.Thispaperaimstoanalyzeandcomparetheperformanceofthesetwoalgorithmsintermsoftheirabilitytoaccuratelyestimatethechannelandimprovesystemperformance.
2.OFDMSystemOverview
ThissectionprovidesabriefoverviewoftheOFDMsystem,includingthetransmitterandreceiverarchitecture,aswellastheimpactofchannelimpairmentsonsystemperformance.
