TheaimofthisresearchistoexplorethephenomenonofEnglishlearninganxietyamongfreshmanEnglishmajors.WiththeincreasingimportanceofEnglishlanguageproficiencyinvariousfields,manystudentsenterEnglishmajorswithhighexpectations.However,thepressuretoexcelinEnglishcanleadtoanxietyandhindertheirlanguagelearningprogress.Therefore,itiscrucialtoidentifythecausesandeffectsofEnglishlearninganxietyandconsiderstrategiestoalleviateit.
CausesofEnglishLearningAnxiety:
1.AcademicPressure:FreshmanEnglishmajorsmaystrugglewiththerigorousacademicdemandsoftheirstudies,leadingtoanxietyabouttheirEnglishlanguageproficiency.
2.FearofFailure:Thefearofmakingmistakesorfailinginlanguagelearningcancreateanxiety.ThisfearmaystemfromhighexpectationsplacedonEnglishmajorsorpastnegativeexperiences.
3.ComparisonwithPeers:Studentsoftencomparethemselveswiththeirpeersintermsoflanguageproficiency,whichcanfurtherheightenanxietyiftheyfeelinadequatecomparedtoothers.
