Introduction:
Inrecentyears,Englishhasbecomeagloballanguageofcommunication,trade,andeducation.ItiscrucialforindividualstohaveasolidfoundationinEnglishlanguageskills.However,forMongolianstudents,whoarepartoftheMongolianethnicminorityinChina,thelearningofEnglishposesuniquechallenges.ThisstudyaimstoinvestigatetheEnglishlearningexperienceofMongolianNationalPreparatoryUniversitystudentsandanalyzethefactorsthatinfluencetheirlanguageacquisition.
1.Background:
TheMongolianNationalPreparatoryUniversity,locatedinChina,primarilytargetsMongolianstudentswhohavecompletedtheirsecondaryeducation.Itoffersaone-yearpreparatoryprogramtopreparestudentsforfurtherstudiesinvariousfields.Englishlanguagelearningisanimportantcomponentofthisprogram,asitservesasagatewaytohighereducationandcareeropportunities.
2.ChallengesfacedbyMongolianNationalPreparatoryUniversitystudentsinEnglishlearning:
a.Linguisticdifferences:MongolianandEnglishbelongtodistinctlanguagefamilies,makingitchallengingtograspthegrammar,vocabulary,andpronunciationofEnglish.
b.Limitedlanguageexposure:MoststudentscomefromMongolian-speakinghouseholdswithlittleexposuretoEnglishoutsidetheclassroom,limitingtheiropportunitiestopracticeandimprovetheirlanguageskills.
c.Culturalbarriers:MongoliancultureandtraditionsmaydiffersignificantlyfromthoseofEnglish-speakingcountries,whichcanaffectstudents'motivationandconfidenceinEnglishlearning.
3.StrategiesforEnglishlearning:
a.Improvedcurriculumdesign:TheuniversityshoulddesignacurriculumthataddressesthespecificlanguageneedsandchallengesfacedbyMongolianstudents.Itshouldfocusondevelopingtheirlistening,speaking,reading,andwritingskillsthroughinteractiveandengagingactivities.
b.Qualifiedteachingstaff:TheuniversityshouldensurethatitsEnglishlanguageteachingstaffarenotonlyproficientinEnglishbutalsounderstandtheuniquechallengesfacedbyMongolianstudents.Theyshouldemployteachingmethodsthatareeffectiveforsecondlang
