Introduction:
Carbondioxide(CO2)isconsideredasoneofthemajorgreenhousegasesthatcontributetotheglobalwarmingphenomena.Inrecentyears,therehasbeenasubstantialincreaseintheconcentrationofCO2intheatmosphere,mainlyduetotheanthropogenicactivitiessuchasburningoffossilfuels,deforestation,andindustrialization.Tomitigatetheeffectsofclimatechange,itisnecessarytomonitorandstudytheatmosphericconcentrationofCO2.Inthepresentstudy,wewilldiscusstheuseofatmosphericpressureCO2lasersformonitoringCO2intheatmosphere.
AtmosphericPressureCO2Lasers:
AtmosphericpressureCO2lasersaretypicallyoperatedatroomtemperature,unlikethehigh-pressureCO2lasersthatrequirecooling.TheatmosphericpressureCO2lasersuseamixtureofCO2,nitrogen(N2),andhelium(He)gases,whichisexcitedbyaradio-frequency(RF)discharge.ThedischargeproducesapopulationinversionbetweenthevibrationalenergylevelsofCO2,whichthenemitslaserradiationatawavelengthof10.6μm.Theemittedradiationcanbeusedforvariousapplicationssuchasmaterialsprocessing,medicaltreatment,andenvironmentalmonitoring.
CO2LaserforAtmosphericMonitoring:
TheCO2lasercanbeusedtomonitortheatmosphericconcentrationofCO2byanalyzingtheabsorptionspectrumofCO2.TheabsorptionspectrumofCO2isauniquefingerprintthatcanbeusedtoidentifytheconcentrationofCO2intheatmosphere.TheCO2laseremitsradiationataspecificwavelengthrangethatcoincideswiththeabsorptionspectrumofCO2.Theemittedradiationisthentransmittedthroughtheatmosphereandmonitoredbyadetector.TheamountofradiationabsorbedbyCO2isindicativeoftheconcentrationofCO2intheatmosphere.
AdvantagesofCO2LaserforAtmosphericMonitoring:
ThereareseveraladvantagesofusingCO2lasersforatmosphericmonitoring.Firstly,theCO2laseremitsradiationataspecificwavelengththatishighlysensitivetotheabsorptionspectrumofCO2,whichallowsforaccuratemeasurementoftheatmosphericconcentrationofCO2.Secondly,theatmosphericpressureCO2lasersarerelativelysmall,portable,andeasytooperate,whichmakesthemidealforfieldmeasurements.Thirdly,theCO2laserisanon-invasivetechnique,whichmeanst
