Abstract
Inrecentyears,wirelessnetworkshavebecomemoreprevalentthaneverbefore.However,securingthesenetworkscanbechallengingduetotheabsenceofphysicalbarriers.Toaddressthisissue,variousauthenticationprotocolshavebeendeveloped,oneofwhichisAydosWirelessAuthenticationProtocol(AWAP).ThispaperanalyzesthesecurityofAWAP,highlightsitsweaknesses,andproposesimprovementsforenhancedsecurity.TheanalysisshowsthatAWAPisvulnerabletovariousattacks,includingreplayattacks,man-in-the-middleattacks,anddictionaryattacks.Therefore,theproposedimprovementsaimtoaddresstheidentifiedweaknesseswhileensuringtheprotocol'sefficiencyandusability.
Introduction
Wirelessnetworkshavebecomeastapleforbothpersonalandbusinessuse.Theyenableeasyaccesstotheinternet,enablemobilityandeliminatetheneedforcables.However,securingwirelessnetworkscanbechallengingduetotheabsenceofphysicalbarriersandtheeaseofaccessbyunauthorizedindividuals.Authenticationprotocolsplayasignificantroleinsecuringwirelessnetworksbyverifyingtheidentityofeveryuser.Theyallowonlyauthorizedaccesswhilekeepingunauthorizedusersatbay.OneoftheauthenticationprotocolswidelyusedtodayistheAydosWirelessAuthenticationProtocol(AWAP).
AWAPisdesignedtoprovideasecureandefficientauthenticationmechanismforwirelessnetworks.Theprotocoloperatesbyhavingauserprovidetheircredentials(usernameandpassword)totheAccessPoint(AP)beforegainingaccesstothenetwork.However,despiteitsintendedpurpose,AWAPhasbeenfoundtohavevariousweaknessesthatmakeitvulnerabletoattacks.ThispaperaimstoanalyzethesecurityofAWAP,highlightitsweaknesses,andproposewaystoimproveitssecurity.

ReplayAttack
OneofthemostsignificantweaknessespresentinAWAPisthevulnerabilitytoreplayattacks.Theseattacksoccurwhenanattackerinterceptsandstoresauthenticationdatatransmittedduringasessionandretransmitsthedataatalatertimetogainaccesstothenetwork.AWAPhasnomechanismtodetectandpreventthesetypesofattacks,whichmakesitvulnerable.
