Introduction
TheUKexperiencedamajorpoweroutageinAugust2019,whichaffectedalmostonemillionpeople.Theincidentcausedwidespreaddisruptions,includingdelaysintransportservicesandconfusioninhospitals.ThepoweroutagealsoraisedconcernsabouttheresilienceoftheUK'senergyinfrastructureandtheabilityofthegovernmentandenergycompaniestohandlesuchemergencies.Thispaperseekstoconductaqualitativeresearchstudytodeterminethetrustlevelofthepublictowardsthegovernmentandtheenergyprovidersfollowingthismajorpoweroutage.
Background
TheUK'senergyinfrastructurehascomeunderscrutinyinrecentyears.TheNationalGrid,whichisresponsibleforenergytransmission,haswarnedthattheUKisfacingashortfallinenergysupply.Thishasledtoconcernsaboutthereliabilityofthecountry'senergyinfrastructureandtheriskofpoweroutages.InAugust2019,amajorpoweroutageaffectedthecountry,leadingtochaosandconfusion.
Researchquestion
Thisstudyseekstoanswerthefollowingresearchquestion:Whatisthelevelofpublictrustinthegovernmentandenergycompaniesintheaftermathofthe2019UKpoweroutage?
Methodology
Forthisstudy,aqualitativeresearchdesignwillbeused.Qualitativeresearchmethodsareappropriateforexploringcomplexissuesandforgaininganin-depthunderstandingoftheperspectivesandexperiencesofparticipants(Bryman,2016).Theresearchdesignwillinvolveconductingsemi-structuredinterviewswithasampleoftheaffectedcitizens.
Atotalof15participantswillbeselectedthroughpurposivesampling.Theparticipantswillbeselectedbasedontheirproximitytotheaffectedareas,age,andgender.Thesemi-structuredinterviewswillbeconductedface-to-face,andwillbeaudio-recordedwiththeconsentoftheparticipants.Datawillbetranscribedverbatimandanalysedthematicallyusingacodingprocess.Theanalysiswillbedoneinductivelytogeneratethemesandpatternsfromthedata.
Ethics
Ethicalconsiderationswillbetakenintoaccountinthisresearch.Theparticipantswillbeinformedaboutthenatureofthestudy,andtheirconsentwillbesoughtbeforeconductingtheinterviews.Theconfidentialityoftheparticipantswillbeensuredbyusingpseudonymsin
