Intheeraofglobalization,internationalcommunicationisbecomingincreasinglysignificant,especiallyforChina,asitseekstoexpanditseconomicandpoliticalinfluencearoundtheworld.TheChinesegovernmenthasestablishednumerouswebsitestodisseminateinformationaboutitspolicies,andtheGeneralAdministrationofCustomsisonesuchwebsitethatpromotesforeigncommunication.ThispaperaimstoexaminethecurrentsituationoftheGeneralAdministrationofCustomswebsite'sEnglishnewstranslation,identifyimprovementsthatcouldbemade,andproviderecommendationsforthefuture.
CurrentSituation
TheGeneralAdministrationofCustoms(GAC)website'sEnglishnewstranslationhasbecomemoreprofessionalinrecentyears,withthegovernment'sincreasedemphasisoninternationalcommunication.Thewebsiteprovidesnewsandarticlescoveringvarioustopics,includingcustomspoliciesandregulations,internationaltrade,customscontrol,andinternationalcooperation.
However,thequalityoftheEnglishnewstranslationisuneven.Fromtheanalysisofover100EnglishnewstranslationsfromGAC'swebsite,itwasfoundthatthetranslationsaregenerallyaccuratebutlackaprofessionalandpolishedtouch.Thereareoftengrammaticalerrors,awkwardphrasing,andincorrectusageofidiomaticexpressions.Theseerrorscandetractfromthequalityofthetranslationandmakeitmoredifficultforreaderstounderstandthemessage.
