LiteratureReview ThetraditionalapproachtoteachingEnglishreadinghasbeencriticizedforitspassiveandmonotonousnature,focusingonpassivereceptionofinformationratherthanactiveconstructionofmeaning.Scholarshavecalledforashiftfromthetraditionalmodeltoamorecommunicativeandinteractionalapproach,whichenableslearnerstouselanguageinauthenticcontexts,communicatewithothers,anddeveloptheircommunicativecompetence.Asaresult,anumberofinnovativeteachingmodeshavebeenproposedandimplementedinEnglishreadinginstruction,suchastask-basedlearning,project-basedlearning,flippedlearning,blendedlearning,andgamification. Task-basedlearningisastudent-centeredapproachthataimstodeveloplearners'languageskillsthroughreal-lifetasksthatsimulateauthenticsituations.Itemphasizestheuseoflanguageforcommunicationandproblem-solving,ratherthanasameremeansofconveyinginformation.Taskscanrangefromfillinginaformtowritingareport,fromdiscussingatopictogivingapresentation.Researchhasshownthattask-basedlearningcanenhancelearners'motivation,engagement,andlanguageproficiency,andcanbeappliedtovariouslevelsandtypesoflearners(Ellis,2003).
