Inrecentyears,theautomotiveindustryhasseensignificantgrowth,withmoreandmorepeopleowningcars.Asaresult,demandforqualifiedautomotivetechnicianshasincreased,withtechnicalschools,andcommunitycollegesofferingautomotivetrainingprograms.OnesuchprogramistheAutomotiveRepairProgramofferedatvocational-technicalschools.Theprogramfocusesonteachingstudentsthenecessaryskillstorepairandmaintainvehicles.However,amajorchallengemanystudentsfaceinthisprogramisthetechnicallanguageusedintheautomotiveindustry,whichisprimarilyinEnglish.Therefore,thispaperaimstoexplorememorytechniquesandpedagogicalstrategiesthatcanbeusedtoenhanceEnglishvocabularyacquisitionamongvocationalstudentsofautomotiverepairprograms.
MemoryTechniques
Memorytechniquescanhelpstudentsmemorizeandretainnewvocabularyefficiently.ThesetechniquesincludetheKeywordmethod,theAcronymmethod,andtheAssociationmethod.
TheKeywordMethod
ThekeywordmethodinvolvesassociatinganewwordwithanalreadyfamiliarEnglishword.Thishelpsstudentsrememberthenewwordanditsmeaning.Forexample,theword“brake”canbeassociatedwiththekeyword“break,”asbothwordssoundsimilar.Anotherexampleistheword“ignition,”whichcanbeassociatedwiththekeyword“ignite.”
