英语课外阅读管理模式研究
Introduction
Readingisacrucialaspectoflanguagelearning,andstudentswhoreadregularlytendtoacquirelanguageskillsmoreeasilythanthosewhodonot.Englishasaforeignlanguage(EFL)learnersoftensupplementtheirlearningbydoingextensivereadingaspartoftheirEnglishlanguageacquisitionprocess.However,achallengeinincorporatingoutsidereadinginEFLclassesishowtomanageandmonitorthisreadingactivity.Thispaperaimstoexplorevariousmanagementmethodsusedtofacilitateandassessstudents’Englishreadingskills.
Benefitsofoutsidereading
Beforeexaminingthemanagementmethods,it’simportanttohighlightsomeofthebenefitsofoutsidereadingforEFLstudents.Oneofthemostobviousbenefitsisvocabularyacquisition,asexposuretonewwordsandphraseshelpsstudentstoexpandtheirvocabularyanduselanguagemoreeffectively.Outsidereadingalsoimprovesreadingfluency,readingcomprehension,writingskills,andcriticalthinkingskills.Additionally,studentsoftenbecomemotivatedtoreadinEnglishwhentheydiscoverinterestingstories,news,andarticlesthatcatertotheirindividualinterests.
Challengesofoutsidereadingintegration
Despitethebenefitsofoutsidereading,therearesomechallengesinintegratingreadingmaterialintoastructuredlanguagelearningenvironment.Onechallengeisensuringthatstudentsreadregularly,oftenvoluntarily,andthattheyunderstandthematerialtheyarereading.Researchshowsthatfrequentandvoluntaryreadingisassociatedwithimprovementinreadingproficiency,vocabulary,andcomprehensionskills.Therefore,encouragingstudentstoreadoutsideofclassroomenvironmentregularlyisessential.Moreover,selectingsuitableandengagingtextsforalllevelsofstudentsiscrucialasitisthefoundationofthesuccessoftheprogramme.
Anotherchallengeishowtoassessandmeasuretheprogressofthestudentsbasedontheoutsidereadingactivities.Assessmentreadingskillsandthequalityofcomprehensionandresponsesisdifficult,andgettingstudentstokeepdetailedreadinglogscanbetime-consumingforbothstudentsandteachers.Further,manystudentsmaynotbemotivatedtokeepupwiththelogsbecausetheyfeelthattheactivityisonerousandunrelatedtothei
