Introduction
China-Pakistanrelationshavecomealongwaysincetheestablishmentofdiplomatictiesin1951.Overtheyears,bothcountrieshavedevelopedadeep-rootedstrategicpartnershipbasedonmutualcooperationandunderstanding.Inrecenttimes,theChina-PakistanEconomicCorridor(CPEC)hasemergedasagame-changerintheregion,amplifyingtheimportanceoftherelationshipfurther.GrowinginterestinChinafromtheinternationalcommunityhasalsomadeitessentialtostudytheculturaltranslator'sroleinrepresentingChinainPakistan'smainstreamEnglish-languagedailies.Inthispaper,wewilllookathowChinahasbeenprojectedinthesenewspapers,focusingonChina'simagebuildingeffortsinPakistan.
Methodology
ThemethodologyemployedtoconductresearchontheportrayalofChinainPakistan'sEnglishlanguagedailiesinvolvescontentanalysisofarticlesthatmentionChina.Wehaveselectedfourleadingnewspapers,namelyDawn,TheExpressTribune,PakistanToday,andTheNation,andanalyzedtheircoverageofnewsandeventsrelatedtoChinafromJanuary2020toDecember2021.
Results
OuranalysisrevealedthatChinese-relatedarticlesinPakistaninewspapersrevolvearoundfiveprimarythemes–CPEC,COVID-19,bilateralrelations,economicdevelopment,andculturalexchange.ThehighestnumberofarticleswasrelatedtotheCPEC,highlightingitsimpactonPakistan'seconomicgrowthanditsimportanceintheChina-Pakistanrelationship.TherewasavisibleinclinationtowardspositivecoverageofChina,projectingChina'seconomicdevelopmentanditsengagementwithPakistanaswin-wincooperation.
WhiletheongoingtradewarbetweenChinaandtheUSmayhavesouredChina'sperceptionglobally,theEnglish-languagedailiesinPakistanseemtohaveafavorableviewofChina.Thepositiveimagebuildingisprominentnotonlyinnewsbutalsoinopinionpieces,whichsuggestadeep-rootedacceptanceofChina'srisingpoweranditsimpactonglobalaffairs.MostPakistan-basedEnglish-languagenewspapersdepictChinaasarisingpowerthatcanbringabouteconomicandsocialtransformationinPakistan.
AnothercriticalfindingisthatthecoverageofChinainPakistan'sEnglishlanguagedailiesisprimarilyinfluencedbytheactualfac
