Introduction:
TheInternetofThings(IoT)technologyhasrevolutionizedvariousindustriesbyconnectingandinterlinkingobjects,devices,andsystemstogatherandexchangedata.OnecriticalareawhereIoTtechnologyisbeingincreasinglyemployedisinthefieldofsmartfirefighting.TheintegrationofIoTinfiresafetysystemshasthepotentialtogreatlyenhancetheprevention,detection,andresponsecapabilitiesoffireemergencies.ThispaperaimstoexploretheapplicationofIoTtechnologyinsmartfirefightingtoimprovetheoverallefficiencyandeffectivenessinfirepreventionandresponse.
1.IoT-enabledFirePrevention:
a.SmartSmokeDetectors:Traditionalsmokedetectorsarebeingreplacedbysmartsmokedetectorsthatcannotonlydetectsmokebutalsocommunicatereal-timedataregardingthelocationandintensityofthefire.ThesedetectorsareintegratedwithIoTplatformsandcancommunicatewithotherdeviceslikesprinklersystems,firealarms,andemergencyresponseteams.
b.GasandHeatDetectors:IoTdevicescanmonitorgasandheatlevelsinreal-time,enablingearlydetectionandpreventionoffirehazards.Thesesensorscanbeintegratedintobuildings,appliances,andstorageareastoidentifyabnormallevelsandnotifyresponsiblepartiesthroughIoTplatforms.
c.FireRiskAssessment:IoTtechnologyenablestheconstantmonitoringofvariousparameterssuchastemperature,humidity,powerconsumption,andequipmentperformance.Byanalyzingtheseparameters,fireriskscanbeassessedandpreventivemeasurescanbetakentoavoidfireincidents.
2.EarlyFireDetection:
a.ConnectedFireAlarms:IoT-connectedfirealarmscanprovidereal-timealertstobothbuildingoccupantsandemergencyresponseteams.Thesealarmscanbeintegratedwithsmartdeviceslikemobilephonesorsmartwatchestoensureimmediatenotificationsincaseofanemergency.
b.VideoandThermalSurveillance:IoT-basedsurveillancesystemswithvideoandthermalcamerascandetectsignsoffire,suchassmokeorsuddentemperaturechange,andautomaticallytriggeralarms.Thesesystemscanalsoprovidelivevideofeedstoemergencyrespondersforbettersituationalawareness.
