Abstract:
Wellcementingplaysacrucialroleinoilandgaswellconstructionbyprovidingzonalisolationandensuringwellintegrity.Toenhancetheperformanceofcementslurries,variouschemicaladditivesareused.Onesuchadditiveistheretarder,whichisprimarilyusedtoextendthethickeningtimeofthecementslurry.Thisexperimentalstudyaimstoinvestigatetheinfluenceofretardersontheperformanceofcementslurriesinwellcementingapplications.Theresultsofthisstudywillcontributetotheselectionandoptimizationofretardersforwellcementingoperations.
1.Introduction
Wellcementingisacriticalprocessinoilandgaswellconstruction,wherecementslurriesarepumpedintotheannularspacebetweenthecasingandthewellborewalltoprovidezonalisolationandensurewellintegrity.Theperformanceofthecementslurrygreatlyaffectsthesuccessofthecementingoperation.Theadditionofchemicaladditives,suchasretarders,iscommonlyemployedtomodifythepropertiesofcementslurriesandimprovetheirperformance.
2.RetardersandtheirMechanisms
