factorforcardiovasculardiseases,stroke,andkidney
failure.Hypertensionhasanincrediblyhighprevalence
worldwide,withanincreasingtrendindevelopingcountries.
Thelifestyleofhypertensivepatientsplaysacriticalrole
inthepreventionandmanagementofhypertension.Health
educationandnursinginterventionsareessentialstrategies
thatcanhelphypertensivepatientstoimprovetheir
lifestyleandachievebetterbloodpressurecontrol.This
paperdiscussesthehealtheducationandnursing
interventionsthathavebeenusedtomanagehypertensionin
variouscountriesworldwide.
Introduction
Hypertension,alsoknownashighbloodpressure,isa
chronicnon-communicablediseaseaffectingmillionsofpeople
worldwide.AccordingtotheWorldHealthOrganization(WHO),
hypertensionisdefinedasasystolicbloodpressureof140
mmHgorhigher,and/oradiastolicbloodpressureof90mmHg
orhigher.Hypertensionisasignificantriskfactorfor
cardiovasculardiseases,stroke,chronickidneydisease,and
othercomplications(1).
Globalprevalenceofhypertensionisrisingrapidly,and
itisestimatedthatapproximatelyonebillionpeople
worldwidehavehypertension.Moreover,hypertensionis
responsibleforabout9.4milliondeathsannuallyworldwide,
makingitoneoftheleadingcausesofdeathglobally(2,3).
Lifestyleinterventionsconstitutethefirst-line
managementofhypertension.Appropriatelifestylechangescan
lowerbloodpressure(BP)andreducetheneedformedication.
Healtheducationandnursinginterventionsplayan
essentialroleinthemanagementandpreventionof
hypertension.Therefore,thispaperaimstoreviewhealth
educationandnursinginterventionsthatareeffectivein
managinghypertensionandimprovingthequalityoflifeof
hypertensivepatients.
