Abstract:
Theimportanceofpowersystemmonitoringandfaultdetectioncannotbeoverstatedinensuringthereliabilityandstabilityofanelectricalgrid.Inthispaper,wepresentthedesignofafaultrecorderforanalyzingwaveformsandcapturingeventsinapowersystem.Thefaultrecorder,alsoknownasadisturbancerecorderoreventlogger,providesvaluableinformationaboutvariouspowersystemdisturbancessuchasfaultevents,voltagesags,swells,andinterruptions.Thispaperdiscussesthekeycomponentsandfeaturesofthefaultrecorder,includingwaveformrecording,triggering,datastorage,andanalysis.Theproposeddesignaimstoenhancethefaultdetectioncapabilitiesofpowersystemoperators,aidinginaccuratefaultdiagnosis,andpreventivemaintenance.
1.Introduction
Theincreasingcomplexityandinterconnectionofpowersystemsgiverisetochallengessuchasvoltagefluctuations,shortcircuits,andtransientphenomenathatneedtobeaccuratelydetectedanddiagnosed.Faultrecordersplayavitalroleinidentifyingandrecordingabnormalelectricaleventsthatoccurinpowersystems.Theycapturedatabysamplingvoltageandcurrentwaveformsatveryhigh-speedrates,allowingforthepreciseanalysisoffaultconditionsanddisturbances.Thispaperpresentsadesignforafaultrecorderthataimstoenhancethemonitoringcapabilitiesofpowersystems.
2.FaultRecorderDesign

Thefaultrecordercomprisesseveralkeyhardwarecomponents,includingvoltageandcurrentsensors,analog-to-digitalconverters(ADCs),memorymodules,andamicrocontrollerunit(MCU).Thevoltageandcurrentsensorsaccuratelyconverttheanalogsignalsintodigitalsignals,whicharethenconvertedintodigitalwaveformsusingADCs.Thedigitalwaveformsarestoredinthememorymodulesforfutureanalysis.TheMCUactsasthecentralcontrolunit,managingthesamplingrates,datastorage,andcommunicationinterfacesofthefaultrecorder.
