Introduction
CBAbasketballhasgainedincreasingpopularityinChina,andevaluatingtheperformanceofCBAteamsplaysacrucialroleinassessingtheirstrengthandpotential.AneffectiveevaluationofCBAteamsrequirestheconsiderationofmultiplevariablesthatreflectvariousaspectsofteamperformance.Toachievethis,theuseofacomprehensiveevaluationindexandthedeterminationofappropriateweightsforeachindexisnecessary.Inthispaper,weproposeamethodbasedonprincipalcomponentanalysis(PCA)tocalculatetheweightsofthecomprehensiveevaluationindexforCBAteams.
Methodology
ThePCAmethodisawidelyusedstatisticaltechniquethataimstoreducethedimensionalityofadatasetwhilepreservingitsvariance.Itinvolvestransformingasetofcorrelatedvariablesintoasmallersetofuncorrelatedvariablescalledprincipalcomponents.ThePCAmethodcaneffectivelycapturetheinformationcontainedintheoriginalvariablesandextractthemostrelevantfeatures.
TocalculatetheweightsofthecomprehensiveevaluationindexforCBAteams,wefirstneedtodeterminethevariablesthatarerelevanttoteamperformance.Thesevariablescanincludeoffensiveefficiency,defensiveefficiency,reboundingability,shootingaccuracy,turnoverrate,andmanyothers.WecollecthistoricaldataonthesevariablesforvariousCBAteamsandseason,andnormalizethemtoeliminatetheinfluenceofdifferentscales.
Next,weperformPCAonthenormalizeddatatoobtaintheprincipalcomponents.Theeigenvaluesassociatedwiththeprincipalcomponentsindicatetheamountofvarianceexplainedbyeachcomponent.Weselecttheprincipalcomponentswitheigenvalueslargerthanacertainthreshold,typicallysetat1,astheyrepresentthemostrelevantfeaturesofthedataset.Wethencalculatethecontributionrateofeachprincipalcomponentbydividingitseigenvaluebythesumofalleigenvalues.
