Abstract:
Thisstudyinvestigatedtheeffectsofselenium(Se)supplementationinfeedonthegrowth,carbohydrateandlipidmetabolism,aswellastheantioxidantresponseinjuvenileSparisomachrysopterum.Furthermore,thepotentialalleviatingeffectofbamboocharcoalontheseresponseswasalsoexamined.TheresultsrevealedsignificantimprovementsingrowthperformanceandantioxidantcapacityinresponsetodietarySesupplementation.Moreover,theadditionofbamboocharcoalappearedtomitigatetheadverseeffectscausedbySesupplementation,providingapotentialstrategytoenhancetheoverallhealthofjuvenileS.chrysopterum.
1.Introduction:
1.1Background:
Seleniumisanessentialtraceelementthatplaysacrucialroleinthehealthandgrowthofaquaticorganisms.Itisknowntopossesspotentantioxidantpropertiesandplaysavitalroleinseveralphysiologicalprocesses,includingimmunefunctionandmetabolism.However,excessiveseleniumcanhavedetrimentaleffectsonfishhealth,leadingtooxidativestressandimpairedgrowthperformance.Therefore,itisimportanttodeterminetheoptimallevelofseleniumsupplementationinfishfeedtomaximizeitsbenefitswhileminimizingpotentialdetrimentaleffects.
1.2Objectives:
Thisstudyaimedtoinvestigatetheeffectsofseleniumsupplementationinfeedonthegrowthperformance,carbohydrateandlipidmetabolism,andantioxidantresponseinjuvenileSparisomachrysopterum.Additionally,thepotentialalleviatingeffectofbamboocharcoalontheseresponseswasassessed.
2.MaterialsandMethods:
2.1ExperimentalDesign:
JuvenileS.chrysopterumwererandomlydividedintofourgroups:acontrolgroupwithoutseleniumsupplementation,agroupsupplementedwithselenium,agroupsupplementedwithbamboocharcoal,andagroupsupplementedwithbothseleniumandbamboocharcoal.Thefishwererearedundercontrolledconditionswithconstantwaterqualityparameters.
