CurrentChallengesinTeachingChemicalEngineeringEnglish:
1.LackofIntegration:Currently,manychemicalengineeringEnglishcoursesaretaughtseparatelyfromtechnicalcourses.Thisresultsinadisconnectedlearningexperience,wherestudentsstruggletoapplytheirlanguageskillstotechnicalcontexts.
2.FocusonGrammarandVocabulary:Traditionalteachingmethodsoftenprioritizegrammarandvocabularyacquisitionoverdevelopingpracticalcommunicationskills.Consequently,studentslacktheabilitytoeffectivelyengagewithtechnicalliteratureorcarryoutoralpresentations.
3.LimitedAuthenticMaterials:Duetotherapidlyevolvingnatureofthefield,findingup-to-dateauthenticmaterialsforteachingpurposesisoftenachallenge.Outdatedmaterialshinderstudents'abilitytostayupdatedwiththelatestknowledgeandterminology.
ProposedReformsinTeachingChemicalEngineeringEnglish:
1.IntegrationofLanguagewithTechnicalCourses:Toenhancethepracticalapplicationoflanguageskills,itisessentialtointegratelanguagelearningwithtechnicalcourses.Byincorporatinglanguageactivitiessuchasreadingtechnicaljournals,writingreports,andgivingoralpresentationsintothecurriculum,studentswillbebetterequippedtoapplytheirlanguageskillstoreal-worldsituations.
2.EmphasisonCommunicationSkills:Shiftingthefocusfromgrammarandvocabularyacquisitiontodevelopingcommunicationskillsiscrucial.Classroomactivitiesshouldincluderole-plays,groupdiscussions,anddebates,enablingstudentstopracticeexpressingtechnicalconceptsfluentlyandconfidently.
