Introduction
TheInternationalSymposiumonGaAsandRelatedCompoundsheldin1981wasasignificanteventthatbroughttogetherscientists,researchers,andengineersfromdifferentpartsoftheworldtodiscusstherecentadvancementsandcurrentchallengesrelatedtothecompoundsemiconductor,GalliumArsenide(GaAs).Thesymposiumprovidedaplatformforexpertstosharetheirknowledge,exchangeideas,andformcollaborations,whichenabledthemtooptimizetheperformanceofGaAstechnologyanddevelopnewapplications.
HistoryofGaAsTechnologyDevelopment
ThefirstdiscoveryofGaAsdatesbackto1940whenitwasidentifiedasapotentialsemiconductormaterialwithhighelectronmobilitycomparedtogermanium,whichwasthedominantsemiconductormaterialatthetime.Thisledtoextensiveresearchanddevelopment,andbythe1970s,GaAswasestablishedasapromisingalternativetosilicon-baseddeviceswithseveraladvantages,includinghighfrequencyofoperation,lownoise,andhighpowercapacity.
