Abstract:
Rareearthmagnesiumalloyshaveemergedaspromisingmaterialsduetotheirexcellentmechanicalandphysicalproperties.Inthisstudy,themicrostructureandperformanceofstirfrictionweldedjointsofrareearthmagnesiumalloyswereinvestigated.Theaimwastounderstandtheinfluenceoftheweldingparametersonthemicrostructureandmechanicalpropertiesofthejoints.
1.Introduction:
1.1Background
Rareearthmagnesiumalloyshaveattractedsignificantattentioninrecentyearsduetotheirhighstrength-to-weightratio,excellentcorrosionresistance,andsuperiorthermalstability.Thesealloysarewidelyusedinindustriesrequiringlightweightstructures,suchasaerospace,automotive,andelectronicindustries.
1.2ResearchPurpose
Thisstudyaimedtoanalyzethemicrostructureandmechanicalpropertiesofstirfrictionweldedjointsofrareearthmagnesiumalloys.Theeffectofweldingparameters,includingrotationspeed,travelspeed,andaxialloadonthejoints'characteristics,wasinvestigated.
2.ExperimentalProcedure:
2.1MaterialSelection
Rareearthmagnesiumalloysampleswerepreparedandcharacterizedfortheirchemicalcompositionandmechanicalproperties.
2.2StirFrictionWelding
Thestirfrictionweldingprocesswasperformedusingaspecializedweldingmachine.Differentweldingparameterswereconsideredtoobservetheireffectsonthejoint'smicrostructureandproperties.

Themicrostructureoftheweldedsampleswasanalyzedusingopticalmicroscopyandscanningelectronmicroscopywithenergy-dispersivespectroscopy.Thegrainstructure,intermetallicphases,andthepresenceofanydefectsoranomalieswereexamined.
2.4MechanicalPropertyEvaluation
Tensiletestingwasconductedtoevaluatethemechanicalpropertiesofthestirfrictionweldedjoints,includingultimatetensilestrength,yieldstrength,andelongation.Hardnesstestingwasperformedtoassessthejoint'shardnessdistribution.
