High-levelapplicationsofTD-SCDMAincludevoicecommunication,videocalling,messaging,internetaccess,andmultimediaservices.Thesehigh-levelapplicationsareonlyavailableduetotheadvancedprotocolsusedbyTD-SCDMA.
TheprotocolstackofTD-SCDMAincludesthephysicallayer,whichisresponsibleformanagingthechannelsandprovidingthephysicaltransmissioncapabilities.Themediumaccesscontrol(MAC)layermaintainsthecommunicationbetweentwodevicesandprovideserrorcorrection.Theradiolinkcontrol(RLC)layerprovidessegmentationandreassemblyofdatapackets,aswellaserrorcorrection.Thepacketdataconvergenceprotocol(PDCP)layerprovidescompressionandencryptionofdatapackets.Lastly,theradioresourcecontrol(RRC)layermanagestheradioresourcesandmaintainstheconnectionbetweenthebasestationandthemobiledevice.
