Introduction:
GPON(GigabitPassiveOpticalNetworks)isapopularsystemusedforprovidinghigh-speeddataservices.Itemploysapassiveopticaldistributionnetworktodeliverdatasignalsfromacentraloffice(OLT)tomultipleend-users(ONUs).TheONUsaretypicallylocatedinresidentialorbusinesspremisesandconverttheopticalsignalstoelectricalsignalsforaccessingdataservicessuchasinternet,IPTV,VoIP,andsoon.TomakesurethattheONUsworkeffectivelyandefficiently,itisimportanttouseappropriatechipsetsthatofferreliableperformance,lowpowerconsumption,andeasyintegration.TheDM9000AisonesuchchipsetthathasfoundwidespreadapplicationinmanyGPONsystems.ThispaperaimstoexploretheroleofDM9000AinGPONsystemsfromanONUperspective.
DM9000AChipset:
DM9000Aisahigh-speednetworkinterfacecontroller(NIC)chipsetthatcansupportboth10/100MbpsEthernetand100BASE-FXopticalinterfaces.Itiswidelyusedinlow-costembeddedsystemssuchasinternetappliances,set-topboxes,IPcameras,andvariousnetworkingdevices.TheDM9000AoperatesatanIOvoltageof3.3Vandconsumeslessthan200mWofpoweratfull-speedoperation.Itemploysan8/16-bitbusinterfaceandsupportsvariousbusprotocolssuchasISA,I2C,SPI,andMicrowire.TheDM9000Acanworkinhalf-duplexorfull-duplexmodeandsupportsvariousnetworkprotocolssuchasTCP/IP,UDP,ICMP,ARP,andothers.Italsohasabuilt-inDMAcontrollerthatcanoffloadtheCPUfromhandlingthedatatransfertasks.
DM9000AinGPONONU:
