Abstract:
Tightcarbonatereservoirshavebecomeahottopicinoilandgasexplorationduetotheirabundanceandconsiderablehydrocarbonpotential.However,theircomplexporestructureoftenposeschallengesinpredictingtheirseismicpetrophysicalcharacteristics,whichisessentialinevaluatingtheirviabilityasreservoirs.Thisstudyaimstoanalyzetheimpactofporestructureontheseismicpetrophysicalcharacteristicsoftightcarbonatereservoirs.Byutilizinglaboratorymeasurementsandnumericalsimulations,wefoundthatporesize,connectivity,andshapesignificantlyaffecttheacousticandelasticpropertiesoftherockmatrix,influencingtheinterpretationoftheseismicdata.
Introduction:
Tightcarbonatereservoirsarecharacterizedbytheirlowporosityandpermeability,resultinginlowproductionratesandrecoveryfactors.Accurateandefficientidentificationofthesereservoirsiscrucialinthepetroleumindustry.Seismicexplorationisoftenusedtoevaluatereservoirs,providingvaluableinformationabouttherockmatrix,fluidcontent,andstructuralfeatures.However,theinterpretationofthedatacanbechallengingduetotheintricateporestructurepresentintightcarbonates.Therefore,understandingtheimpactofporestructureonseismicpetrophysicalcharacteristicsisfundamentalforeffectivereservoirevaluation.
Analysis:
Inthisstudy,weconductedlaboratorymeasurementsandnumericalsimulationstoanalyzetheimpactofporestructureontheseismicpetrophysicalcharacteristicsoftightcarbonatereservoirs.Weinvestigatedthreemainparametersofporestructure,namelyporesize,connectivity,andshape.Ourresultsshowedthatporesizehadasignificantimpactontheacousticandelasticpropertiesoftherockmatrix.Thesmallertheporesize,thestrongertheattenuationofseismicwaves,resultinginlowerseismicamplitudesinthedata.Conversely,largeporesizesfacilitatedthetransmissionofseismicwavesthroughthematrix,yieldinghigherseismicamplitudes.
