材料专业英语教学改革探讨 MaterialScienceMajor:ExploringtheReformofEnglishTeaching 1.Introduction Materialscienceisabranchofsciencethatstudiesthepropertiesandbehaviorofmaterials,includingmetals,ceramics,polymers,andcomposites.Inrecentyears,materialsciencehasbecomemoreandmoreimportantduetotherapiddevelopmentoftechnologyandindustry.Asaninternationalsubject,Englishplaysacriticalroleintheteachingandcommunicationofmaterialscience.However,thetraditionalEnglishteachingmodelinmaterialsciencemajorshasbeencriticizedforitspassive,teacher-centered,andcontent-focusedteachingstyle.Therefore,inthispaper,wewillexplorethereformofEnglishteachinginmaterialsciencemajorsandprovidesomesuggestionsforimprovingtheteachingqualityandpromotingstudents'learning. 2.ProblemsinTraditionalEnglishTeachinginMaterialScienceMajors 2.1PassiveLearning IntraditionalEnglishteaching,studentsaregenerallyrequiredtomemorizealargenumberofprofessionaltermsandgrammarrules,whichleadtothepassivelearningofknowledge.Studentsoftenfeelboredandpowerlessduringthestudyingprocess,andtheyhavelittlemotivationtoactivelyparticipateinclassdiscussionandpractice. 2.2Teacher-CenteredTeaching InthetraditionalEnglishteachingmodel,theroleoftheteacheriscentral,andthestudents'participationislimited.Teachersmainlygivelecturesandprovideexplanations,whilestudentstakenotesandanswerquestionspassively.Asaresult,studentsarenotencouragedtoexpresstheiropinionsandideas,noraretheymotivatedtoexplorethesubjectindependently. 2.3LackofPracticalApplication TraditionalEnglishteachinginmaterialsciencemajorsfocusesmoreontheoreticalknowledgeandlessonpracticalapplication.Students,therefore,cannotapplytheknowledgetheylearntoreal-lifesituations,whichhinderstheirdevelopmentofpracticalskills. 3.SuggestionsforReformingEnglishTeaching 3.1ActiveLearning ActivelearningisanimportantaspectofEnglishteachingreform.Teachersshouldcreateafavorablelearningenvironment,whichencouragesstudentstobeactiveandengagedintheprocessoflearning.Teacherscanintroducemoreinteractiveactivities,suchasg
