AstheInternetofThings(IoT)continuestogrow,machine-to-machine(M2M)communicationisbecomingincreasinglyprevalent.M2Mcommunicationisthebackboneofmanyindustries,includingtransportation,healthcare,manufacturing,andagriculture.InadditiontoM2Mcommunication,human-to-human(H2H)communicationisalsoanintegralpartofmodernsociety.WiththecoexistenceofM2MandH2Hcommunication,powerscalingbecomesacriticalissue.
TounderstandthepowerscalingmechanismsinthecoexistenceofM2MandH2Hscenarios,itisessentialtounderstandtherequirementsofbothtypesofcommunication.M2Mcommunicationisgenerallycharacterizedbylow-bandwidth,low-power,anddelay-tolerantcommunication.Ontheotherhand,H2Hcommunicationischaracterizedbyhigh-bandwidth,low-latency,andhigh-qualitycommunication.Asaresult,powerscalingforthecoexistenceofbothtypesofcommunicationmustbalancelow-powerrequirementsforM2Mcommunicationwithhigh-qualitycommunicationforH2Hcommunication.
OneapproachtopowerscalinginthecoexistenceofM2MandH2Hscenariosistousecognitiveradiotechnology.Cognitiveradiotechnologyenablesdynamicspectrumaccess,whichmeansthatdevicescanopportunisticallyusespectrumthatisnotcurrentlyinusebyotherdevices.ThisapproachcanhelptoreduceinterferencebetweenM2MandH2Hcommunication,whichcanleadtomoreefficientpowerusage.
Anotherapproachtopowerscalingistousepowercontrolmechanisms.Powercontrolmechanismscanbeusedtoadjustthepowerlevelsofdevicesbasedontherequirementsofthecommunication.ForM2Mcommunication,devicescanuselow-powermodestoconserveenergy.ForH2Hcommunication,devicescanusehigherpowermodestoensurehigh-qualitycommunication.ThesepowercontrolmechanismscanhelptooptimizepowerusageandreduceinterferenceinthecoexistenceofM2MandH2Hcommunication.
