Introduction
DVB,alsoknownasdivinylbenzene,isawell-knowncrosslinkingagentthatisfrequentlyusedinthesynthesisofmacroporouspolymers.DVB-basedpolymershaveawiderangeofapplications,andtheirpropertiescanbeeasilymodulatedbychangingtheamountofDVBused,aswellasthetypeofpolymerizationcatalystemployed.OneparticularareawhereDVB-basedpolymershavebeenextensivelystudiedisinthefieldofheterogeneouscatalysis.Inthiscontext,DVB-basedpolymerscanbeusedassupportsformetalnanoparticles,allowingforthedevelopmentofhighlyactiveandselectivecatalyticsystems.ThisstudyfocusesontheinfluenceofDVBusageonthepropertiesofSDBstructuresandPt-SDBcatalyticperformance.
ImpactofDVBusageonSDBstructure
SDB,orstyrenedivinylbenzene,isatypeofmacroporouspolymerthatisusedextensivelyinthefieldofchromatographyduetoitshighporosityandexcellentmechanicalproperties.ThepropertiesofSDBcanbemodulatedbyvaryingtheamountofDVBusedduringthepolymerizationprocess.Ingeneral,increasingtheamountofDVBresultsinahigherdegreeofcrosslinking,leadingtoareductioninporesizeandanincreaseinmechanicalstability.Atthesametime,ahigherdegreeofcrosslinkingcanalsoresultinalowersurfacearea,whichcanimpactthecatalyticperformanceofSDB-basedmaterials.
Inrecentyears,severalstudieshaveexaminedtheimpactofDVBusageonthepropertiesofSDBstructures.Forexample,astudybyKimetal.(2010)examinedtheeffectofDVBcontentonthemechanicalpropertiesofSDBstructurespreparedusingacopolymerizationprocess.TheresultsshowedthatanincreaseinDVBcontentledtoanincreaseintheYoung'smodulusandtensilestrengthoftheresultingSDBmaterials,whilethestrainatbreakdecreased.InanotherstudybyChenetal.(2019),theimpactofDVBusageontheporestructureofSDB-basedmaterialswasexamined.TheresultsshowedthatanincreaseinDVBcontentledtoareductioninporesizeandanincreaseinthedegreeofcrosslinking.ThesefindingshighlightthecriticalroleofDVBincontrollingthepropertiesofSDB-basedmaterials.
