CDMA(CodeDivisionMultipleAccess)isapopulartechnologyusedforwirelesscommunication.Itallowsmultipleuserstosharethesamefrequencybandatthesametimeusingdifferentcodes.ThismakesCDMAlessvulnerabletointerferenceandnoisecomparedtootherwirelesstechnologies.However,CDMAsystemsarenotfreefromtechnicalissues,andoneofthecommonchallengesfacedbynetworkoperatorsistheRSSI(ReceivedSignalStrengthIndicator)anomalyproblem.
RSSIisameasureofthesignalstrengthreceivedbyawirelessdevice.Itisacriticalparameterthathelpsnetworkoperatorsdeterminethequalityofthewirelessconnection.AlowRSSIvalueindicatesaweaksignal,whichcanleadtoslowdatatransferratesorevendroppedcalls.Incontrast,ahighRSSIvalueindicatesastrongsignal,whichusuallyresultsinfastdatatransferratesandclearvoicecalls.
DespitetheimportanceofRSSI,CDMAsystemsmayexperienceunexpectedRSSIvalues,whichcancausevariousnetworkissues.TheRSSIanomalyproblemcanmanifestindifferentforms,includingnegativeorextremelyhighRSSIvalues,rapidfluctuationofRSSI,orRSSIjumps.ThesesuddenchangesinRSSIcanimpactthenetwork'squalityofservice(QoS)andcausenetworkoutagesanduserdissatisfaction.
ThereareseveralfactorsthatcancauseRSSIanomalyinCDMAsystems.Thefollowingaresomeofthemostcommoncauses:
1.Interference:CDMAsystemsusespreadspectrumtechniquestominimizeinterferencefromotherwirelessdevices.However,ifthesystemexperiencesinterferencefromotherwirelessdevices,RSSImaybeaffected,resultinginunexpectedRSSIvalues.
2.SignalShadowing:Signalshadowingoccurswhenasignalisblockedbyobjectssuchasbuildings,mountains,ortrees.Ifawirelessdeviceislocatedinanareawithsignalshadowing,itmayreceiveaweakenedsignalresultinginanunexpectedRSSIvalue.
3.MultipathFading:Multipathfadingoccurswhenasignalreachesawirelessdevicethroughmultiplepathswithvaryinglengthsandphases.Thiscancreateconstructiveordestructiveinterference,causinganunexpectedRSSIvalue.
4.DevicePerformance:DeviceperformancecanalsocauseRSSIanomalies.Ifawirelessdeviceismalfunctioningduetodamagedantennasorotherhardwarefailures,itmayrec
