Inrecentyears,withtheriseofcloudcomputing,bigdata,andIOT,thedesignandimplementationofdistributedsystemshavebecomeincreasinglyimportant.Adistributedsystemisanetworkofcomputersthatworktogethertoachieveacommongoal.Distributedsystemsprovidebetterperformance,scalability,andfaulttolerancethancentralizedsystems,whichiswhytheyarewidelyusedinmodernapplications.
Oneimportantaspectofdistributedsystemsisthecommunicationprotocolusedtoexchangemessagesbetweennodes.Manydifferentprotocolscanbeused,butJSONisbecomingincreasinglypopularduetoitssimplicityandflexibility.JSONstandsforJavaScriptObjectNotation,anditisalightweightdatainterchangeformatthatiseasytoreadandwrite.JSONisbasedonasubsetoftheJavaScriptprogramminglanguageandwasfirstintroducedin2001.
Inthispaper,weproposeaJSON-baseddistributedsystemarchitecturethatcanbeusedinavarietyofapplications.OurarchitectureconsistsofnodesthatcommunicatewitheachotherusingJSONmessages.Eachnodehasauniqueidentifierandcanperformavarietyoftasks,suchasprocessingdata,storingdata,orexecutingcode.
Thenodesinourarchitecturecommunicateusingapublish-subscribemodel.Thismeansthateachnodecanpublishmessagestoatopic,andothernodescansubscribetothattopictoreceivemessages.Thismodelallowsforveryflexiblecommunicationandallowsnodestobeaddedorremovedfromthesystemwithoutaffectingtheoverallfunctionality.
Furthermore,ourarchitectureincludesacentralmessagebrokerthathandlesthedistributionofmessagesbetweennodes.Themessagebrokerensuresthatmessagesaredeliveredreliablyandquickly,eveninthefaceofnetworkfailuresornodefailures.Themessagebrokercanalsobeusedtoroutemessagestospecificnodesbasedontheircapabilitiesorlocationinthenetwork.
AnotherkeyfeatureofourarchitectureistheuseofJSONschemastodefinetheformatofmessages.JSONschemasprovideawaytoensurethatmessagesarewell-formedandcontainallthenecessaryinformation.Schemasarealsousefulforvalidatingincomingmessagesandenforcingsecuritypolicies.
