Introduction
FDD-LTEisapopularwirelesscommunicationtechnologyusedforhigh-speeddatatransferinmobilenetworks.InFDD-LTE,thedownlinksharedchannelisacriticalcomponentthatisresponsiblefortransmittingdatafromthebasestationtomultipleuserdevicessimultaneously.Thesuccessfulimplementationofthedownlinksharedchannelisessentialforprovidingreliableandhigh-performancemobiledataservices.Inthispaper,wediscussthesimulationandimplementationoftheFDD-LTEdownlinksharedchanneltransmitterusingmulti-coreDSPtechnology.
FDD-LTEDownlinkSharedChannel
TheFDD-LTEdownlinksharedchannel(DL-SCH)isasharedchannelthatisusedfortransmittingdatafromthebasestationtomultipleuserdevices.ItisbasedonthephysicallayeroftheFDD-LTEstandardandusestheQPSKor16-QAMmodulationscheme.TheDL-SCHconsistsofmultiplesubframesthataretransmittedovera10msframe.Eachsubframeismadeupoftwoslots,witheachslotcontainingmultiplesymbols.TheDL-SCHistransmittedwithacertainpowerlevel,whichisdeterminedbasedonthechannelconditionsoftheuserdevice.
SimulationofFDD-LTEDownlinkSharedChannelTransmitter
ThesimulationoftheFDD-LTEdownlinksharedchanneltransmitterisdoneusingMATLABandSimulink.ThefirststepinthesimulationistogeneratetheQPSKor16-QAMsymbolsthataretobetransmitted.ThesymbolsarethenmodulatedusingtheOFDMmodulationschemeandfedintothephysicallayeroftheFDD-LTEstandard.Thephysicallayerincludesvariousmodulessuchasthechannelcodingmodule,ratematchingmodule,interleavingmodule,andmodulationmodule.Theoutputofthephysicallayeristhenconvertedintoaformsuitablefortransmissionovertheradiochannel.
Thenextstepinthesimulationistomodeltheradiochannelandapplythefadingeffect.TheradiochannelismodeledusingaRayleighfadingmodel,whichisastatisticalmodelthatassumesthesignalexperiencesarandomphaseshiftduetoreflectionsandscatteringofthesignal.ThefadingeffectisappliedtothetransmittedsignalusingaDopplershift,whichisameasureoftherateofchangeofthefrequencyofthesignalduetothemotionoftheuserdevice.
