Introduction
FLNGisanewtechnologyfornaturalgasliquefactionandtransportation.Itintegratesgasprocessing,liquefaction,storageandexportintooneunit,whichgreatlysimplifiesthetransportationofnaturalgas.InthedesignofFLNG,theliquefactionsystemisacriticalcomponent,whichdirectlyaffectstheefficiencyandperformanceoftheentiresystem.ThispaperanalyzesandoptimizestheliquefactionsystemofFLNGfromtheperspectiveoffiresafety.
AnalysisofLiquefactionSystem
Liquefactionistheprocessofconvertingnaturalgasfromagaseousstatetoaliquidstatebycoolingittoatemperatureof-162°C(-259°F).IntheliquefactionprocessofFLNG,themostcommonmethodusedisthemixedrefrigerantcycle.
ThemixedrefrigerantcycleofFLNGmainlyconsistsoffourcomponents:refrigerationcompressors,heatexchangers,expansionvalvesandstoragetanks.Intheprocessofliquefaction,themixedrefrigerantgasiscompressedbytherefrigerationcompressor,andthencooledbytheheatexchangerwiththecoldgasfromthestoragetank.Thecooledmixedrefrigerantgasisthenexpandedthroughtheexpansionvalve,andentersthestoragetankwhereitisliquefiedandstored.
However,theliquefactionprocessofFLNGalsofacesmanychallenges.Forexample,themixedrefrigerantcyclegeneratesalotofheatduringcompression,whichneedstobedissipatedbythecoolingwatersystem.Ifthecoolingwatersystemfails,thetemperatureofthemixedrefrigerantgaswillcontinuetorise,whichmaycauseafireorexplosion.
Inaddition,intheliquefactionprocessofFLNG,therearealsorisksofleaksandspillsofliquefiednaturalgas.LNGisahighlyflammableandexplosivesubstance,andifitisnothandledproperly,itmaycauseacatastrophicfireorexplosion.
