英语专业学生道歉言语行为的调查研究 Introduction Apologyisanimportantaspectofinterpersonalcommunicationinanyculture.Itistheactofexpressingregretorremorseforamistakeorwrongdoing.InthecontextofEnglishlanguagelearning,itisparticularlyimportantforstudentstobeabletoapologizeeffectivelyinordertobuildpositiverelationshipswithpeersandteachers.However,researchhasshownthatnon-nativeEnglishspeakersmaystrugglewithconveyingapologiesinEnglishduetoculturalandlinguisticdifferences. PurposeofStudy ThisstudyaimstoinvestigatetheapologybehaviorsandlanguageusedbyEnglishmajorstudentsinChinawhenapologizinginEnglish.Thestudywillexplorethechallengesthatthesestudentsfacewhenapologizinginaforeignlanguageandthestrategiestheyusetoconveysincerityandeffectivenessintheirapologies. Methodology TheparticipantsofthisstudyareEnglishmajorstudentsfromauniversityinChina.Aqualitativeresearchapproachwasused,anddatawascollectedthroughsemi-structuredinterviews.TheparticipantswereaskedtorecallasituationwheretheyhadtoapologizeinEnglishanddescribethebehaviorsandlanguagetheyusedduringtheinteraction. Results TheanalysisofthedatarevealedthattheparticipantsfacedseveralchallengeswhenapologizinginEnglish.TheseincludealackofconfidenceinspeakingEnglish,alimitedvocabulary,anddifficultyinunderstandingculturalnuances.Thesechallengesresultedintheuseofindirectapologies,excessivepoliteness,andatendencytoover-explainthesituation. Uponreflection,theparticipantsrecognizedtheimportanceofbeingsincereanddirectintheirapologies,evenifthismeantmakinglinguisticorculturalmistakes.TheyidentifiedtheneedtopracticeEnglishskillsandtolearnfrompreviousexperiences. Discussion TheresultssuggestthatEnglishmajorstudentsinChinafacechallengesinconveyingapologiesinEnglishduetolinguisticandculturaldifferences.However,withpracticeandreflection,theycanimprovetheirabilitytoapologizeeffectively.Educatorsandlanguageinstructorscansupportstudentsbycreatingasafeandsupportiveenvironmentforlanguagepractice,promotingculturalawareness,andprovidingfeedbackonlanguageuse.
