TheEnglishlanguagehasbecomeagloballanguagethatiswidelyusedinbusiness,education,andcommunicationacrosstheworld.WiththeincreasingimportanceofEnglish,languageproficiencyhasbecomeacrucialfactoringlobalcompetitivenessandcommunication.InChina,theEnglishproficiencylevelisevaluatedthroughtheCollegeEnglishTest(CET),withthehighestlevelbeingtheCET-8.TheCET-8examincludeslistening,reading,writing,andtranslation,anditiswidelyrecognizedasastandardmeasureofEnglishproficiencyinChina.However,languagetestshavesomelimitations,andoneofthemisthephenomenonofbackwasheffect.ThispaperaimstoexplorethebackwasheffectoftheCET-8listeningtestanditsimpactonEnglishlanguagelearning.

BackwashEffectreferstotheimpactofthetestonteachingandlearning.Itisalsoknownaswashbackortestingeffect.Whenthetesthasasignificantimpactonteachingandlearning,itissaidtohaveapositivebackwasheffect.Ifthetesthasnegativeinfluencesonteachingandlearning,itissaidtohaveanegativebackwasheffect.Backwasheffectisinevitableandcanhavesignificantimplicationsforlanguageteachingandlearning.
