Introduction:
Non-smallcelllungcancer(NSCLC)isoneofthemostdeadlycancersthataffectspeopleworldwide.ThemajorityofpatientsarediagnosedwithadvancedstageNSCLCdisease,whichoftenresultsinpoorprognosisandhighmortality.ThetreatmentofNSCLCtypicallyinvolvesacombinationofchemotherapyandradiotherapy.However,oneofthemajorsideeffectsofthistreatmentishyperglycemia.Hyperglycemiaisaconditionwhichischaracterizedbyanabnormallyhighlevelofbloodsugaranditcanincreasetheriskofdiabeticcomplications.Therefore,itisimportanttoinvestigatethestrategiestomanagehyperglycemiainNSCLCpatients.
Objective:
TheobjectiveofthisstudyistoinvestigatetheinterventionstrategiestomanagehyperglycemiainNSCLCpatientswhoarereceivingchemotherapyandradiotherapy.
Methodology:
Thisstudyinvolvedacomprehensivereviewoftheliteraturerelatedtohyperglycemiainadvanced-stageNSCLCpatients.TheliteraturesearchwascarriedoutusingvariousdatabasesincludingPubMed,MEDLINE,andCochraneLibrary.Thesearchwasbasedonthefollowingkeywords:non-smallcelllungcancer,hyperglycemia,chemotherapy,radiotherapy,intervention,andmanagement.Inclusioncriteriafortheselectionofstudiesincludestudiesthatexploredtheeffectsofinterventionstrategies,withGPregimen,onbloodsugarlevelsinadvancedNSCLCpatientsreceivingchemotherapyandradiotherapy.Exclusioncriteriawerethestudiesthatdidnotmeetthesecriteriaofinterest.
Results:
SeveralstudieshavereportedthattheGPregimenhasbeenusedasapartofthechemotherapyforadvancedstageNSCLCpatients.However,theGPregimenhasbeenassociatedwithanincreasedriskofhyperglycemia.Therefore,manystudieshavetriedtoinvestigatethestrategiestoreducetheincidenceofhyperglycemiainNSCLCpatientsreceivingGPregimen.ThemosteffectiveinterventionstrategiesformanaginghyperglycemiainNSCLCpatientsinvolvedietarymodifications,lifestylemodifications,andinsulintherapy.
EvidencesuggeststhatdietarymodificationscansignificantlyreducetheriskofhyperglycemiainNSCLCpatients.AlowcarbohydrateandhighproteindietmaybeaneffectiveapproachtomanaginghyperglycemiainNSCL
