Introduction
TheInternationalSymposiumonElectronOptics(ISEO),alsoknownastheInternationalConferenceonElectronOptics,washeldinBeijing,China,fromOctober15-18,2019.Thesymposiumbroughttogetherresearchersfromaroundtheworldtodiscussrecentdevelopmentsinelectronoptics,includingadvancesinelectronmicroscopy,electrondiffraction,andelectronspectroscopy.
OverviewoftheSymposium
ThesymposiumwasorganizedbytheStateKeyLaboratoryofElectronMicroscopyandTechnologyandtheBeijingCenterforElectronMicroscopy.Theeventfeaturedkeynotelecturesfromdistinguishedscientistsinthefieldofelectronoptics,aswellasoralandposterpresentationsfromconferenceparticipants.
Thekeynotelecturescoveredarangeoftopicsrelatedtoelectronoptics,includingtheuseofelectronmicroscopyformaterialscharacterization,thedevelopmentofnovelelectronsources,andthemodelingandsimulationofelectronoptics.
Inadditiontothekeynotelectures,thesymposiumincludedseveraltechnicalsessionsfocusedonspecificareasofelectronoptics,suchaselectronholography,aberration-correctedelectronmicroscopy,andin-situelectronmicroscopy.
Onehighlightofthesymposiumwasthediscussionofthelatestadvancesinaberration-correctedelectronmicroscopy.Severalspeakerspresentedtheirresearchontheuseofaberration-correctedelectronmicroscopytoachievesub-angstromresolutionimagingofmaterials,includingbiologicalsamples.Otherspeakersdiscussedthedevelopmentofnewaberration-correctiontechniquesandthechallengesinvolvedinimplementingthesetechniquesinelectronmicroscopes.
