Introduction
LTE(Long-TermEvolution)isastandardforwirelessbroadbandcommunicationthatisdesignedtosupporthigh-speeddatatransferratesformobiledevices.OneofthekeyfeaturesofLTEistheuseofMIMO(MultipleInputMultipleOutput)technology,whichenablesthesystemtotransmitmultipledatastreamssimultaneouslyoverthesamefrequencyband.Thismakesitpossibletoachievehighdataratesandimprovetheoverallcapacityofthesystem.Inthispaper,wewilldiscussthemulti-userMIMOcapacityanalysisinLTEsystems.
Multi-UserMIMO
Multi-userMIMOisatechnologythatallowsmultipleuserstotransmitdatasimultaneouslyoverthesamefrequencyband.InanLTEsystem,thebasestationusesmultipleantennastotransmitdatatomultipleusersatthesametime.Thisrequiresadvancedsignalprocessingalgorithms,suchaslinearbeamforming,tomitigateinterferencebetweenusersandmaximizethesystemcapacity.
Themulti-userMIMOsystemcanbedividedintotwocategories:uplinkanddownlink.Theuplinkreferstothetransmissionofdatafromtheuserequipment(UE)tothebasestation,whilethedownlinkreferstothetransmissionofdatafromthebasestationtotheUE.Inbothcases,thesystemmustemployaschedulingalgorithmtodecidewhichusersareallowedtotransmitatanygiventime.
Thecapacityofthemulti-userMIMOsystemdependsonseveralfactors,includingthenumberofantennas,thechannelconditions,andthenumberofusers.ThecapacitycanbecalculatedusingtheShannon-Hartleytheorem,whichstatesthatthecapacityofachannelisproportionaltothebandwidthandthesignal-to-noiseratio(SNR).Inamulti-userMIMOsystem,thecapacityisalsoaffectedbytheinterferencebetweenusers,whichcanlimitthetotalsystemcapacity.
CapacityAnalysis
Thecapacityanalysisofamulti-userMIMOsystemcanbedoneusingseveralapproaches,includingsimulationandmathematicalanalysis.Inthispaper,wewillfocusonthemathematicalanalysisapproach.
