Abstract
Onthe10thofOctober2021,theGordonResearchSeminaronGlasswasheldinWatervilleValley,NewHampshire,USA.Theseminarwasattendedbyparticipantsfromvariousbackgrounds,includingacademia,industry,andgovernmentwithresearchfocusonglassscience.Theseminarprovidedaplatformforparticipantstodiscussthemostrecentadvancesinglassstudiesandthefuturedirectionofresearchinthefield.Thetopicsofdiscussionencompasseddifferentresearchapproaches,includingexperimentalandtheoreticalstudies,andvariousglasstypesincludingtraditionalsoda-limeglass,bioactiveglasses,andmetallicglasses.Thegoalofthisseminarwastofostercollaborationandexchangeofideas,toaddresschallengesinthefield,andtoidentifypotentialnewresearchdirectionsinglassscience.
Introduction
Glassisaubiquitousmaterialwithawidearrayofapplications,spanningfromhouseholditemssuchaswindowsandcutlerytoadvancedopticsandelectronics.Theversatilityandnumerousapplicationsofglasshavespurredsignificantresearchinthefieldofglassscience,encompassinginnovationsinmanufacturing,processing,anduse.Glassscienceoffersuniqueopportunitiesforinterdisciplinaryresearchasthematerialpropertiesinfluencefieldssuchaschemistry,physics,biology,andmaterialsscience.Thisdiversityprovidespotentialforaddressingvariouschallengesanddevelopingnovelmaterialapplications.TheGordonResearchSeminaronGlassfocusedonthemostrecentadvancesinglassresearch,includingtraditionalareasandnovelresearchdirections.
