高中生英语词汇学习策略的调查研究
Introduction
VocabularyisacrucialcomponentoftheEnglishlanguage.Learningawiderangeofvocabularycanenhanceastudent'scommunicationskillsandimprovetheirprospectsinacademicandprofessionalrealms.Therefore,itisessentialforhighschoolstudentstohaveeffectivestrategiesforEnglishvocabularylearning.Thisresearchaimstoinvestigatethevocabularylearningstrategiesemployedbyhighschoolstudentsandexaminetheeffectivenessofthesestrategiesinenhancingvocabularyretentionandusage.
Methodology
Thestudyinvolvedsampling100highschoolstudentsfromtwodifferentschools.Theparticipantsweregivenaquestionnairecomprisingofbothopen-endedandclosed-endedquestions.Theopen-endedquestionsaimedtocapturethestudents'vocabularylearningstrategiesandthereasonsbehindtheirchoiceofparticularstrategies.Theclosed-endedquestions,ontheotherhand,focusedonobtainingdemographicdatasuchasage,gender,gradelevel,andEnglishlanguageproficiency.Thedatacollectedwerethenanalyzedqualitativelytoidentifycommonthemesconcerningthevocabularylearningstrategiesemployedbytheparticipants.
ResultsandAnalysis
ResultsfromtheanalysisrevealthathighschoolstudentsemployvariousstrategiestolearnEnglishvocabulary.Themostpopularstrategiesemployedincludereadingextensively,usingcontextclues,andmemorization.Readingextensivelyinvolvesreadingmaterialssuchastextbooks,novels,andarticles.Ithelpsstudentstoencounternewvocabularyinnaturalsettingsandidentifythemeaningofwordscontextually.Themajorityoftheparticipantsalsopointedoutthattheyemploythecontextualcluesapproachtoinferthemeaningofunfamiliarwords.Theystatedthatcontext-basedlearningismoreeffectivebecauseitenablesthemtounderstandhowwordsareusedinreal-lifesituations.Additionally,studentsusememorizationtechniquestolearnvocabulary.Theycreateflashcardscontainingnewwords,contexts,anddefinitions,andthenmemorizethem.
Anotherstrategyfrequentlyemployedbythestudentsistheuseofmultimediamaterialssuchasaudioandvideo.TheparticipantsstatedthatlisteningtoEnglishsongs,watchingEnglishmoviesandTVshows,andusinglanguage-b
