Abstract:
Translationistheprocessoftransferringmeaningfromonelanguagetoanother,anditinvolvesvariouslinguisticandculturalaspects.Subjectselectionplaysacrucialroleintranslating,asitdetermineshowthetranslatorconveystheintendedmeaningaccurately.Thisempiricalresearchaimstoinvestigatethevariationinsubjectselectionbetweenhigh-andlow-leveltranslatorswhentranslatingfromChinesetoEnglish.Thestudyusedasampleoftextstranslatedbyprofessionaltranslatorswithvaryingproficiencylevels.Theresultsofthisresearchshedlightonthedifferencesinsubjectselectionandprovideinsightsforimprovingtranslationquality.
Introduction:
Translationhasbecomeanessentialpartofglobalcommunicationandinteraction,requiringhighproficiencyinbothsourceandtargetlanguages.Theselectionofthesubjectintranslationisparticularlycrucialbecauseitdirectlyaffectshowthemeaningisconveyed.Thisresearchaimstoexplorethesubjectselectiondifferencesbetweenhigh-andlow-leveltranslatorsinChinese-to-Englishtranslation.Byanalyzingandcomparingtranslatedtexts,valuableinsightscanbegainedforbothtranslatorsandtranslationstudies.
LiteratureReview:
Previousstudieshaveaddressedvariousaspectsoftranslationandsubjectselection.Someresearchersfocusontheroleofsubjectselectioninconveyingspeaker'sintentions,whileothersanalyzesubjectselectionfromaculturalorsemanticperspective.Althoughresearchhasbeenconductedonmachinetranslationandsubjectselection,thereisalackofempiricalstudiesonthesubjectselectiondifferencesbetweenprofessionaltranslatorsofdifferentproficiencylevels.
Methodology:
Forthisresearch,asampleoftextstranslatedbyprofessionaltranslatorswithvaryinglevelsofproficiencywascollected.Toensuretheauthenticityandreliabilityofthetexts,theywereobtainedfromreputabletranslationagencies.ThesampleconsistedofbothChinesesourcetextsandtheircorrespondingEnglishtranslations.Thesubjectselectionineachtranslationwasanalyzedandcompared.
Resultsa
