Introduction
Aconstantvoltagesourceisacrucialcomponentinvariouselectronicandcommunicationsystems,especiallyinanalogprocessingcircuits.Atlowvoltages,itbecomeschallengingtodesignaconstantvoltagesourceduetoreducedheadroomandincreasedvariabilityofMOSFETparameters.Inthispaper,weproposethedesignofalowvoltageweightedCMOSconstantvoltagesourcebasedonV(gs).Wewilldiscussthedesignofthecircuit,itsoperatingprinciples,andthesimulationresults.
Design
ThedesignofaweightedCMOSconstantvoltagesourceisachievedthroughtheuseofaMOSFETnetworkarrangedinafeedbackconfiguration.TheMOSFETprovidesavoltagethatisproportionaltoitsgate-sourcevoltage(V(gs)),whichisutilizedasthereferencevoltage.TheMOSFETnetworkconsistsoffourNMOStransistors(M1,M2,M3,andM4)andtwoPMOStransistors(M5andM6),asshowninfigure1.

ThebasicprincipleofoperationinvolvesusingtheV(gs)ofM1tosettheoutputvoltage(Vout).TheVoutisfedbacktothegatesofM2andM4,withtheV(gs)ofM3andM5usedasthereferencevoltage.Thesourcevoltage(VDD)isusedtosettheoverallmagnitudeoftheoutputvoltage.TheweightsappliedtotheNMOStransistorsM1andM2arerelatedtotheratiooftheirW/L,asaretheweightsappliedtothePMOStransistorsM5andM6.
Toprovidethedesiredvoltageoutput,wechooseW/Lvaluesofvarioustransistors.TheW/LofM1ismadetentimesthatofM2,whiletheW/LofM5ismadetwicethatofM6.ThetransistorM3isusedtotranslatethevoltage,whileM4isemployedtocompensatefortheleakagecurrentthatcanaffecttheaccuracyofthevoltageoutput.Toachievethedesiredoutputvoltageaccurately,wetunedthevaluesoftheM3andM4transistors.
TheschematicoftheCMOSconstantvoltagesourceissynthesizedusingTSMC0.18µmprocesstechnologywithtransistorparametersshownintable1.
