Background: 3Gwirelessnetworkshavebeenwidelyusedformobilecommunication,andhaveamaximumtransferrateofupto2Mbps.However,duetothehighdelayandlowbandwidthof3Gnetworks,therearemanychallengesfordatatransmission,suchaspacketlossanddelayjitter.ROHCcaneffectivelyreducethesizeofpacketheadersandreducepacketlosscausedbyheadercompression.However,thecurrentROHCprotocolhassomelimitations,whichleadtoperformanceissueson3Gnetworks. ROHCPerformanceIssueson3GWirelessNetworks: TheperformanceofROHCon3Gwirelessnetworksisaffectedbyseveralfactors,includingthetypeoftrafficbeingtransmitted,networklatency,andpacketloss.First,differenttypesoftraffichavedifferentheadersizes,whichaffectsthecompressionratioofROHC.Forexample,TCPtraffichasalargerheadersizethanUDPtraffic.Secondly,thelatencyofthenetworkaffectsthetimeittakesforthepacketheadertobecompressedandtransmitted.Finally,packetlossona3GnetworkreducestheefficiencyoftheROHCalgorithm,aslostpacketsneedtobere-transmitted,whichaddstotheoveralldelay.
