Introduction:
Vocabularyplaysacrucialroleinlanguagelearningandacquisition.Forjuniorhighschoolstudents,buildingastrongfoundationofvocabularyisessentialfortheiroveralllanguagedevelopment.Therefore,itisessentialtoinvestigateandstudyvariousvocabularypresentationmethodsinordertoimprovetheeffectivenessandefficiencyofvocabularyteaching.ThispaperaimstoconductasurveyandinvestigationondifferentvocabularypresentationmethodsusedinjuniorhighschoolEnglishteaching,exploringtheiradvantages,disadvantages,andtheirimpactonstudents'vocabularyacquisition.
Methods:
Toconductthisresearch,asurveywasdesignedandadministeredtobothEnglishteachersandstudentsinjuniorhighschools.Thesurveyconsistedofvariousquestionsrelatedtovocabularypresentationmethods,includingthemethodsused,thefrequencyofimplementation,andtheperceivedeffectiveness.Additionally,classroomobservationswerecarriedouttodirectlyobservehowvocabularywaspresentedwithinthecontextoflessons.
Results:
1.VocabularyPresentationMethods:
Thesurveyresultsindicatedthatteachersmainlyusedthefollowingvocabularypresentationmethods:
a)Translation:Teachersprovidedtranslationsofnewvocabularywordsinthestudents'nativelanguagetofacilitateunderstanding.
b)Contextualization:Teacherspresentedvocabularywordswithinmeaningfulcontexts,suchassentences,shortpassages,ordialogues.
c)Visuals:Teachersusedvisualaids,suchaspictures,flashcards,ormultimediaresources,tohelpstudentscomprehendandremembervocabularywords.
d)WordFormation:Teachersfocusedontheformationofwordsthroughwordfamilies,prefixes,suffixes,androotwords.
e)Chunking:Teachersgroupedvocabularywordsintosemanticorsyntacticcategoriestoaidmemorizationandcomprehension.
2.FrequencyofImplementation:
Mostteachersreportedusingacombinationofthesevocabularypresentationmethodsratherthanrelyingsolelyononemethod.Translationandcontextualizationwerethemostfrequentlyusedmethods,followedbytheuseofvisuals,wordformatio
