Introduction:
TheTrackingandDataRelaySatelliteSystem(TDRSS)isaspace-basedcommunicationsystemthatprovidestracking,datarelay,andcommunicationservicestoNASAmissionsandothergovernmentagencies.TDRSShasbeenakeyassetforspaceexplorationsinceitslaunchin1983,anditcontinuestoprovidevitalservicestosupporthumanspaceflight,scientificresearch,andearthobservationmissions.
OneofthecriticalfunctionsofTDRSSishigh-speeddatatransmission,whichrequirestheaccurateacquisitionandtrackingofsignalsfromspacecraft.Thispaperfocusesonthestudyofcarriercaptureandtrackingalgorithmsforhigh-speeddatatransmissionsignalsbasedonTDRSS.
CarrierCaptureAlgorithm:
Acarriercapturealgorithmisusedtosynchronizethereceivercarrierfrequencywiththeincomingsignalcarrierfrequency.TheTDRSSreceiverusesafrequencysynthesizertogenerateaninitialcarrierfrequencythatisclosetotheexpectedsignalcarrierfrequency.Thecarriercapturealgorithmthenadjuststhesynthesizerfrequencytolockontotheincomingsignalcarrierfrequency.
Therearedifferenttypesofcarriercapturealgorithms,butthemostcommonlyusedonesarethePhase-LockedLoop(PLL)andtheCostasLoop.ThePLLcomparesthephasedifferencebetweentheincomingsignalandthesynthesizerfrequencyandadjuststhesynthesizerfrequencytominimizethephasedifference.TheCostasLoopissimilartothePLL,butitalsousesaquadraturephasedetectortotrackthephaseoftheincomingsignalcarrier.
Oneofthechallengesofcarriercaptureisthepresenceofnoiseandinterferenceinthesignal,whichcancausefrequencyoffsetsandphaseerrorsinthereceivedsignal.Tomitigatetheseeffects,advancedcarriercapturealgorithmsusesignalprocessingtechniquessuchasdigitalfilteringandadaptiveequalization.
CarrierTrackingAlgorithm:
Oncethecarrierfrequencyislockedontothesignal,acarriertrackingalgorithmisusedtomaintainthelockandcompensateforanyvariationsinthesignalcarrierfrequencyduetoDopplershift,ionosphericeffects,andotherenvironmentalfactors.
ThemostcommonlyusedcarriertrackingalgorithmsarethePLLandthePhase-OnlyLoop(POL).ThePLLadjuststhesynthesizerfrequency
