Introduction
Remotemeterreadingisnecessaryforefficientandeffectivemanagementofutilitiessuchaselectricity,gas,andwater.Usingtraditionalmanualmeterreading,theseutilitiescanbeatedious,time-consuming,andexpensiveprocess.Withadvancementsintechnology,therehavebeenimprovementsinremotemeterreadingthatmakeitmoreefficient,cost-effective,andreliable.
ThispaperdiscussesaremotemeterreadingsystembasedonZigBeeGPRStechnologythatisorientedtowardsubiquitouscomputing.Thesystemprovidesanefficient,reliable,andcost-effectivesolutionforremotemeterreading,whichisscalableandeasytodeploy.
Background
RemotemeterreadingsystemsusetechnologiessuchasZigBee,GPRS,andWiFitocommunicatewiththemeters,collectdata,andtransferittoacentralserver.ZigBeeisalow-power,wirelesscommunicationprotocolthatprovidesreliableandcost-effectivecommunicationbetweendevices.GPRSisamobilecommunicationtechnologythatenablesdatatransferfromremotelocations.WiFiprovideshigh-speedinternetconnectivity,whichisnecessaryforreal-timemonitoringandcontrol.

SystemArchitecture

TheGPRSmodemisconnectedtothecellularnetwork,whichprovidesinternetconnectivitytothecentralserver.ThecentralserverreceivesdatafromtheGPRSmodem,processesit,storesit,andprovidesittotheusersthroughaweb-basedinterface.Theuserscanviewandanalyzethedatainreal-time,enablingthemtomakeinformeddecisions.
