TheCharacteristicsofSpatialLayoutofCateringIndustryinTouristCities:ACaseStudyofLhasaCity
Tourismhasbecomeanimportantdriverofeconomicgrowthformanycities,especiallyforthoselocatedinmountainousorremoteareas,suchasLhasaCity,whichisknownasthe“RoofoftheWorld”andoneofthemostpopulartouristdestinationsinChina.Withtherapiddevelopmentoftourism,thecateringindustryinLhasaCityhasalsoundergonesignificantchanges,bothintermsofquantityandquality.ThispaperaimstoinvestigatethecharacteristicsofthespatiallayoutofthecateringindustryinLhasaCityandthefactorsthathaveinfluenceditsdevelopment.
Firstly,thecateringindustryinLhasaCityhasadistinctivespatiallayout,whichcanbedividedintofourmaincategories:traditionalTibetanrestaurants,modernTibetanrestaurants,Chinese-stylerestaurants,andfastfoodchains.TraditionalTibetanrestaurantsaremainlylocatedintheoldtown,whichisthehistoricheartofLhasaCity,andofferlocalTibetanfood,suchastsampa,butteredtea,andyakmeat.TheserestaurantsareusuallysmallinsizeandhaveatraditionalTibetanstyle,withcolorfulprayerflagsandthangkashangingonthewalls.ModernTibetanrestaurants,ontheotherhand,arelocatedinthenewerpartsofthecity,suchasthecommercialcenter,andofferamoreupscalediningexperience,withafusionofTibetanandWesterncuisines.Chinese-stylerestaurants,mainlyservingSichuanandCantonesecuisines,arelocatedinthesameareasasthemodernTibetanrestaurants,targetingbothlocalresidentsandtouristswhopreferChinesefood.Finally,fastfoodchainssuchasKFCandMcDonald'saremainlylocatedinthecommercialcenterandofferaconvenientandaffordableoptionfortouristswhoareinahurryorwantatasteoffamiliarfood.
