Introduction
Economicsanctionsareacommontoolusedininternationalpoliticstopromoteordiscouragecertainbehaviorsoftargetcountries.Whiletheimpactofeconomicsanctionsintermsofpoliticalandeconomicoutcomeshasbeenwidelystudied,theeffectonthetargetcountry'sexchangerateisstillnotclear.Inthispaper,weinvestigatetheimpactofeconomicsanctionsontheexchangeratesoftargetcountriesusingempiricaldatafrom30economies.Specifically,weexaminehoweconomicsanctionsaffectexchangeratevolatility,duration,andwhethertheimpactiscontingentonexternalfactorssuchasmarketexpectationsandsanctionseverity.

Previousresearchhasexaminedtheimpactofeconomicsanctionsonvariousmacroeconomicoutcomes,includingGDPgrowthandinflationrates.However,lessattentionhasbeenpaidtotheimpactofeconomicsanctionsonexchangerates.Afewstudieshaveexaminedtheimpactofsanctionsonexchangerates,buttheirfindingshavebeenmixed.Forexample,somestudiesfoundthatsanctionshaveanegativeimpactonthetargetcountry'sexchangerate,whileothersfoundnosignificantimpactorevenapositiveimpact.
Methodology
Weuseapanelregressionapproachtoexaminetheimpactofeconomicsanctionsonexchangeratevolatilityandduration,controllingforvariouseconomicandpoliticalfactorsthatmayaffectexchangerates.Wealsoincludeinteractiontermstoexaminetheconditionalimpactofeconomicsanctionsonexchangerates,basedonvariablessuchasmarketexpectationsandsanctionseverity.
Results
